Europe calls on America to reconsider its decision on the World Health Organization

After US President Donald Trump implemented his threat and announced the end of his country's relations with the World Health Organization due to the way it dealt with the Corona virus crisis, stopping the funding, the European Union called on the United States on Saturday to "reconsider" its decision.
"The World Health Organization needs to continue its ability to lead the global response to the epidemic, now and in the future," said a joint statement by European Commission President Ursula von der Laine and Federation Foreign Minister Josep Borrell.

"For this reason, participation and support from everyone are required and there is an urgent need for them," the statement added. "We are urging the United States to reconsider its announced decision."

"A doll in the hands of China"
Trump considered his decision against the organization to have come from acting as a puppet to China, adding that Chinese officials "ignored their obligations to inform" the organization about the virus and pressed it "to mislead the world."

Speaking at the White House on the day of the announcement, Trump went ahead with his repeated threats to cut US funding to the organization, which amounts to hundreds of millions of dollars annually.

He said the world body had failed to carry out the reforms he called for earlier this month.

He also added that Chinese officials "ignored their obligations to inform" the organization about the virus and pressed it "to mislead the world" when the Chinese authorities first discovered the virus.
In addition, he considered that "China has full control over the organization, although it pays only $ 40 million annually compared to what the United States pays, which is approximately $ 450 million annually." Do something. "

"Since they failed to make the necessary and much needed reforms, today we will end our relationship with the world organization and redirect that money to cover other urgent public health needs around the world," he concluded.

It is noteworthy that the US President was required two weeks ago by the organization to carry out fundamental reforms, calling on them to be independent from China, threatening to cut off the funding completely.
In a letter to the organization's director, Tedros Adhanom Gebresus, on May 19, Trump threatened to reconsider US membership of the organization if it did not commit to real reforms and drastic improvements in its work and performance within 30 days.

He also stressed that the freezing of the funding currently applied temporarily will turn into permanent if the organization fails to prove its independence from China.

For several weeks now, the US President has accused the UN of not issuing sufficient early warning about the deadly virus and of blindly dying behind China, which denies US accusations of covering up the scale of the epidemic when it appeared in Wuhan (central) late last year.
